Learn to Read with the Litkidz Reading Curriculum
IV: THIRD GRADE READING – 3 Parts
(Assessment-based)
Pre-requisites: Consonant and Vowel Recognition; Short vowels in CVC; Consonant Blends (CCVC); Long Vowels; R-Controlled Vowels
Part 1: 10 sessions
- Special Sounds: au, aw, ou ow, oi, oy, oo,
- Soft C and G
- Adding Endings – ing, ed, er, est
- Sight Word Spelling
- Word-Family Spelling
This curriculum expands the ability to read more words, breaking out of the CVC word. The recommended number of sessions is 10, but depends on the pace of the students.
Part 2: 10 sessions
- Fluency
- Comprehension
- Writing
- Spelling
In this course, we begin to work with fluency, assuming that the word recognition has been implanted. Using Running Records, we will practice reading the same texts, looking for increase in fluency and comprehension.
Recommended number of sessions is 10, running twice a week for 5 weeks.
Part 3: 10 sessions
Decoding Multi-syllable words
- Vowel, followed by 1 consonant
- Vowel, followed by 2 consonants
- R-controlled vowels
- Endings: -LE, -TION, -OUS
This course begins to approach serious reading skills beyond reading readiness. Decoding multiple syllables is key to learning to read. This class can begin with 10 sessions, twice a week, and continue as long as needed in cycles.
