III. EMERGING READERS (5 – 8): 4 parts
(Assessment-based) (Suitable for grades 1 & 2)
Pre-requisites: Completion of Classes I and II, or, assessed ability to recognize and say the sounds and names of all consonants and vowels, and blend CVC words.
Parts 1 – 4
- Consonant Blends (L-blends, R-blends, S-blends) – 6 sessions
- Common Digraphs: CH, SH, WH, TH – 8 sessions
- R-controlled Vowels (AR, UR, IR, ER, OR, and exceptions) -10 sessions
- Long Vowels – 10 sessions
- Words ending in a vowel
- Silence E
- Common adjacent vowels: ea/ ee/ oa/ ai/ ay
- Long-vowel word families
This curriculum extends the reading beyond CVC to CCVC. Each part can be taken separately, or assessed out of. Sight words are included in each part. This curriculum brings readers to the world of long vowels and silent-e, thus extending the reading capacity.
The curriculum includes reading, writing, word sorts, and spelling.
