Early Literacy
1. Phonemic Awareness (aka Phonological Awareness)
(Assessment-based)
- Word Awareness – recognize and count words
- Syllable Awareness –recognize and count syllables
- Word Rhyming – hear rhymes
- Work with phonemes (match, isolate, segment, blend, add, and substitute)
2. Letter Knowledge – reading and writing
(Assessment-based)
- Letter recognition and creation: Upper Case letters
- Letter recognition and creation: Lower case letters
- Letter Names – upper and lower case
This curriculum is for developing pre-literacy skills with younger (4 to 5) children, or those who have not yet begun to read at all.
