This lovely image is for International Children’s Book Day 2013 (April 2). In my mind, there can’t be too many children’s book celebrations! The organization (IBBY) behind this celebration is committed to children’s literature as a way of promoting international understanding. When I read that, I wondered what books that I have read so far do a good job of that. I found that Dragonfly Pool was the closest. The event also made me more committed to look carefully for books that offer a message of peace and equality. I’m so happy to find organizations like this with such a high aspiration for children’s books. What’s your favorite children’s book for promoting peace and understanding?
